Ilya Bannik

Ilya Bannik was born in Nikolayev. In 1990 he began studies in the Music Department of the Herzen University, and in 1994 was also accepted to the Vocal Department of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg Conservatory where he studied under Georgy Seleznev and graduated in 1999. Since 1999 he has been a soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre Academy of Young Opera Singers. Ilya Bannik won several international singing competitions. In 2009 he became a soloist for the Mariinsky Theater opera troupe.

He has interpreted various roles in the opera theatres of Italy, Belgium, the UK, and France. He has been in productions heard at the Verdi Festival in Italy and has sung on stage at the Welsh National Opera, the Opéra Bastille, Albert Hall, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, the Toulouse Opera, the Teatro Carlo Felice, and the Opéra de Lille.

His concert repertoire includes the bass parts in Stravinsky’s “Les Noces”, Verdi’s and Mozart’s Requiems, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Berlioz’s dramatic symphony “Roméo et Juliette”, Bach’s Magnificat, and Schubert’s Stabat Mater.

He has participated in the Verdi Festival in Italy and in the Glyndebourne Festival where he sang Banco in “Macbeth”. He has worked with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Justus Frantz, and Carlo Rizzi.

He makes frequent appearances in festivals and concerts in the foremost venues in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and other cities across Russia, Europe, and America.
