Edward Tsanga

Edward Tsanga was born in Syktyvkar. He graduated from the Glinka Nizhniy Novgorod Conservatory studying under Andrei Sedov. In 2000 he joined the Mariinsky Theatre Academy of Young Opera Singers, and in 2008 he joined the opera troupe of the Mariinsky Theatre.

He has garnered prizes in international competitions such as the Elena Obraztsova Competition (2003, Second Prize), the Pavel Lisitsian Competition (2003, First Prize), the Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singer’s Competition (Saint Petersburg, 2000, special prize), the Boris Christoff Competition (Bulgaria, 2000, audience favourite award), and a diploma at the Plácido Domingo Operalia Competition (2003).

His Mariinsky Theatre repertoire extends to 35 roles, among them Ruslan in “Ruslan and Lyudmila”, the title role in “Aleko”, Don Basilio in “Il barbiere di Siviglia”, Figaro in “Le nozze di Figaro”, Don Giovanni and Masetto in “Don Giovanni”, Oreste in “Elektra”, Escamillo in “Carmen”, Prince Gremin in “Eugene Onegin” and many more.

Edward Tsanga has been on tour with the Mariinsky Theatre to London, Paris, and to various cities in Finland, South Korea, and Germany. He sang the part of Leander in a new production of “The Love for Three Oranges” on the stage of the Teatro Real as well as in Aix-en-Provence and Luxembourg.

He was first to perform the role of Ataman Platov in the world premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s opera “The Lefthander” at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2013.
