Yevgeny Nikitin

bass-baritone

Yevgeny Nikitin was born in Murmansk. In 1997 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg Conservatory where he studied under Bulat Minzhilkiev. While still a student he was invited to join the Mariinsky Theatre troupe, and since then he has been singing in its major productions.

He is a guest soloist at the Metropolitan Opera where he has sung the parts of Colline in “La Bohème”, Pogner in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, Fasolt in “Das Rheingold”, Rangoni in “Boris Godunov” and Orest in “Elektra”. He performs frequently at the Bavarian State Opera, the Opéra Bastille, and the Théâtre du Châtelet.

Wagner roles hold a special place in the singer’s repertoire. Among his most recent engagements are “The Flying Dutchman” in Toronto, Leipzig and Baden-Baden; Fasolt in “Das Rheingold” with Simon Rattle conducting in Aix-en-Provence; the Wanderer in “Siegfried” for the BBC Proms with Christoph Eschenbach conducting; and Amfortas in “Parsifal” in Valencia. His repertoire also includes Heinrich the Fowler in “Lohengrin”, Wotan in “Das Rheingold” and “Siegfried”, Gunther in “Die Götterdämmerung”, and Klingsor in “Parsifal”.

With the Mariinsky opera troupe Yevgeny Nikitin has participated in international festivals in Schleswig-Holstein, Salzburg, Verbier, Mikkeli and Saint Petersburg.

The Philips Classics label released recordings featuring Yevgeny Nikitin in “Boris Godunov” (1997, with Valery Gergiev conducting) and “Semyon Kotko” (2000, Valery Gergiev conducting). He has also been recorded on the Mariinsky label singing Amfortas in “Parsifal”.
