Andrei Baranov studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and the Lausanne Conservatory, and his most important teacher is the famous French violinist Pierre Amoyal. At the age of 23 Baranov was made assistant to Professor Amoyal at the Lausanne Conservatory and since then has taught there.

Andrei Baranov has performed in the most prominent concert venues in Russia, Austria, the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has been the creative partner of such leading conductors as Vasily Petrenko, Teodor Currentzis, Nikolai Alexeyev, Eduard Serov, Mikhail Tabachnik, Emmanuel Krivine and many others. In 2011 Andrei was guest concertmaster for the MusicAeterna Orchestra with Teodor Currentzis conducting, and in 2012 he became first violin in the David Oistrakh Quartet that was created that year.

The musician plays the “Huggins” Stradivarius violin on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.

Andrei Baranov is a prize winner in more than 20 international competitions for violin, including the Benjamin Britten Competition and the Henri Marteau Competition. He took First Prize in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (2012).
