Albina Shagimuratova

Albina Shagimuratova was born in Tashkent. She graduated from the Kazan Conservatory and continued her advanced studies at the Moscow Conservatory studying under Galina Pisarenko. While still a student she was a soloist for the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre and appeared in the Sviatoslav Richter December Nights Festival. Since 2008 she has been a soloist for the Dzhalil Tatar State Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

International recognition came to her in 2007 when she took First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Among her extensive repertoire of classic roles, Shagimuratova is acknowledged as one of today’s finest interpreters of the roles of Lucia di Lammermoor and the Queen of the Night, which she has performed at the Salzburg Festival, in Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Los Angeles Opera, and the Houston Grand Opera.

She collaborates with such conductors as Riccardo Muti, James Conlon, Patrick Summers, Peter Schneider, Ádám Fischer, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Hans Graf, Zubin Mehta, Edward Gardner, Vladimir Jurowski, Vladimir Fedoseyev, and Vladimir Spivakov, and many others.

She is a winner of the Golden Mask Award for best female opera role (for her portrayal of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Tatar State Theatre of Opera and Ballet) and the Casta Diva Award (for her Bolshoi Theatre performance as Lyudimila in “Ruslan and Lyudmila” and and Lucia for the Tatar State Theatre of Opera and Ballet).
