Mikhail Kazakov

Mikhail Kazakov was born in Dimitrovgrad. In 2001 he graduated from the Zhiganov Kazan State Conservatory studying under Galina Lastovka. While still a student he débuted at the Dzhalil Opera and Ballet Theatre performing in Verdi’s Requiem. Since 2001 he has been a soloist with the opera troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre.

He is a winner of international competitions such as the Elena Obraztsova Competition for Young Opera Singers (Second Prize), the Glinka Competition (Grand Prix), the International Singing Competition of the City of Toulouse (Grand Prix), the International Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens (Second Prize), the International Tchaikovsky Competition (First Prize), and the China International Vocal Competition in Beijing (First Prize).

With nearly all the classical bass repertoire at his arsenal, he is booked for concert appearances, performances at the Mariinsky Theatre, in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, at the Vienna State Opera (conducted by Seiji Ozawa), the Saxon State Opera (Semperoper), the Washington National Opera (at the invitation of Plàcido Domingo), the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, and the Dallas Opera among others.

He takes part in musical festivals such as Basses of the 21st Century, Irina Arkhipova Presents, the Mikhailov International Opera Festival, the Russian Musical Evenings in Paris, the Ohrid Summer Festival (Macedonia), the Krushelnitska International Opera Festival and others.

He has received a prize from the Irina Arkhipova Foundation (2002), is a People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan (2003), and an Honoured Artist of Russia (2008).
