Bright holiday to V-Day
This year's 9th Moscow Easter Festival unites the two great holidays - Bright Holiday of Easter and V-Day - the Day marking the 65th anniversary of victory over Hitler's fascism during the Second World War.

The 9th Moscow Easter festival to open in Moscow on Sunday
The ninth Moscow Easter festival will open at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire on Sunday. Like in previous years, the festival has been inspired and organized by maestro Valery Gergiyev. Beware of Russians Bearing Gifts
Whenever I encounter Les Troyens, I think of how lucky we audience members are. After all, its composer, Hector Berlioz, never had the pleasure of seeing the work performed. There are so many Trojan stories to tell, but let’s confine ourselves to but one.

Gergiev and soloists provide blazing account of “Les Troyens” at Carnegie Hall
Berlioz’s Les Troyens recently entered the repertoire of the Mariinsky Theatre in a production by the lively and popular Catalan theater company known as La Fura dels Baus. This week the Mariinsky and Valery Gergiev brought Les Troyens to Carnegie Hall, performing the long opera over the course of two evenings (Tuesday and Wednesday), but they left the production back home in St. Petersburg. Few in the audience could have felt deprived, so gripping was the concert performance that emerged.

Teamwork Wins Wars and Operas
Valery Gergiev has been the artistic and general director of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg for 22 years. The Mariinsky orchestra, an ensemble that passes on traditions, artistic identity and even instruments from generation to generation, has formed a bond with Mr. Gergiev. When things are working well, the orchestra and the conductor bring out the best in each other.
